Snellville is a homeowner town of brick ranches and 1980s and 1990s subdivisions, many on big lots under tall trees.

In 1879, Thomas Snell and James Sawyer opened a store on what is now the corner of US 78 and Highway 124. Growth took off in the late 1950s, when brothers Jimmy and Wayne Mason began building affordable brick homes and the town grew more than 200 percent. The city's own plan describes the Skyland area as a mix of 1950s and 1960s ranches and newer two-story subdivisions, most on large lots with mature trees.
The second boom was bigger. Snellville went from 1,990 residents in 1970 to 12,084 by 1990, and 37 percent of today's housing was built from 1980 through 1999. The median home is from 1991. Since architectural shingles commonly wear out somewhere around 20 to 30 years in, the first roof on a house from that boom is at or near the end of its run. Across Snellville, that adds up to a lot of roofs coming due in the same stretch of years.
This is a homeowner town. About 78 percent of homes are owner-occupied, and the city counts 94 percent as detached single-family houses. In Pinehurst, its plan describes ranch houses on generous lots under a full, mature tree canopy. That shade comes with leaves in the gutters and limbs over the roof. The National Weather Service has logged the result: a large tree that crashed onto a Litchfield Road house in August 2009, damaging the roof and letting water in, and two Snellville homes hit by falling trees in May 2011.
Hail and wind have both left marks here. In April 2009, golf ball size hail fell just west of town and half-dollar size hail came down in the Snellville area. In October 2020, storms from the leftovers of Hurricane Delta knocked down trees and damaged a roof between Snellville and Lilburn. After a storm like that, we look the roof over and tell you plainly if it needs a patch, a section of new decking or a full replacement. Winder, our home base, is about 19 miles away.
"David did a stellar job on my roof. It’s really beautiful. I own rental properties so he has actually done a few roofs for me and lots of repair and maintenance on my older roofs. He is easy to work with and so reliable."

It depends on your address. Inside city limits, permits go through Snellville's Planning and Development department, and the city notes its permit list is not complete, so it asks you to call with questions. Gwinnett County's own permit reports include homes with Snellville addresses, which tells you some 30039 and 30078 addresses sit outside the city and go through the county instead.
Age alone does not decide it. Snellville's brick ranches go back to the late 1950s, and a house that old may have been reroofed once or more. We check the decking, the shingles and any leak spots, then tell you straight what a repair would buy you and when a new roof makes more sense, so you can make the call.
Yes, storm and branch damage is on our list of services. We patch the hole, replace damaged decking and seal the roof back up. A customer review describes "any number of repairs (usually a falling branch poking a hole in the roof)." On Snellville's wooded lots, that is a repair worth having a roofer lined up for.
All the time. Landlords use us for new roofs, repairs, and keeping older roofs maintained across multiple properties.
We're based in Winder and roof across Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Jackson, Walton, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties. That covers Athens, Watkinsville, Jefferson, Monroe, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Stone Mountain, Tucker, Decatur, Avondale Estates, and the towns in between. Further out? Call and ask.
No. Estimates are always free with no pressure. We treat your home like our own and stand behind every roof we put on.
