Roof repair, replacement and branch damage for Athens homeowners and landlords, under a canopy that covers 58 percent of the county.

Athens has about 57,090 homes, and only 41 percent are lived in by the people who own them, per ACS 2024 5-year data via Census Reporter. That makes it a landlord town as much as a homeowner town, and rental property roofs are one of our six services. The median Athens home dates to 1987, and roughly one in five went up between 2000 and 2009. Those first shingle roofs are now reaching the 20 to 30 years architectural shingles commonly last. We're based in Winder, and we work in Athens.
Athens-Clarke's 2021 Community Tree Study measured canopy over 58.2 percent of the county, almost 13.5 million trees, and the county reports that as the highest documented canopy of any city with 100,000 or more people. Sweetgum, loblolly pine and water oak lead the count. On June 7, 2025, one line of storms dropped trees onto homes on Rosewood Place, Morningview Drive, West Huntington Road, Southview Drive and Leann Drive. That is why one customer's review sums up our repairs as "usually a falling branch poking a hole in the roof." When a limb comes through, we get it off, replace the broken decking, patch the shingles and seal the hole.
Hail and wind leave their own marks here. On July 21, 2018, the public reported hail the size of hen's eggs near Sunset Drive and Edwards Drive, and golf ball size hail in Athens the same day. On July 20, 2023, the UGA weather station at 100 Sanford Drive clocked a 66 mph gust while large pines toppled at Lexington Road and the Loop. Hurricane Helene skirted east of town on September 27, 2024, and about 30 streets still closed for fallen trees and downed lines. After a storm like that, an inspection shows whether shingles were bruised, lifted or torn, and whether a repair is enough.
Athens-Clarke has 16 local historic districts and 44 local landmarks, Cobbham, Boulevard, Woodlawn and Reese Street among them. The county's design guidelines treat swapping an old asphalt shingle roof for new asphalt shingles as ordinary maintenance, with no Certificate of Appropriateness needed. Most changes in material, shape or slope go to a public hearing, and adding gutters and downspouts can go to staff review. Woodlawn's Craftsman houses have shallow pitches, and the county building office sets a 2 in 12 minimum slope for shingles, with a double layer of underlayment on slopes under 4 in 12. We check the pitch before recommending shingles on a low porch roof.

Not for a like-for-like job. Athens-Clarke's historic design guidelines say replacing an asphalt shingle roof with new asphalt shingles needs no Certificate of Appropriateness. Changing the roof's material, shape or slope does, and most of those changes go to a public hearing. If you are unsure, the Athens-Clarke Planning Department can tell you whether your project counts as ordinary maintenance.
Call us at (678) 873-8757. Once the limb is off, we look at the decking underneath, replace what broke, and seal the roof back up. With close to 13.5 million trees in the county, it is common work in Athens: storm reports from June 7, 2025 list trees landing on homes along five different streets.
Yes. We do new roofs, repairs and upkeep for landlords, and our reviews include owners with several rental properties. About 59 percent of Athens homes are rented, so plenty of roofs here belong to owners who live somewhere else. We inspect each house and tell you plainly which roof needs a repair and which one needs replacing.
All the time. Landlords use us for new roofs, repairs, and keeping older roofs maintained across multiple properties.
We're based in Winder and roof across Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Jackson, Walton, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties. That covers Athens, Watkinsville, Jefferson, Monroe, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Stone Mountain, Tucker, Decatur, Avondale Estates, and the towns in between. Further out? Call and ask.
No. Estimates are always free with no pressure. We treat your home like our own and stand behind every roof we put on.
