Gwinnett's county seat has old bungalows by the courthouse square and more rented homes than owned ones. We roof both.

Lawrenceville was incorporated in 1821 and laid out around a town square, a spot picked for its nearby springs. The 1885 courthouse and its four-story clocktower still overlook that square. The streets close to it hold the city's oldest houses, mostly bungalows built between 1900 and the 1940s. On a house that old, the boards under the shingles have been up there a long time, so a tear-off on one starts with a close look at the decking before anything new goes on.
Most of Lawrenceville is much younger than the square. Half the homes here date to 1988 or later, 36 percent went up between 1980 and 1999, and about a third were built in 2000 or after. A typical architectural shingle roof is good for roughly 20 to 30 years, so most original roofs from the 1980s and 1990s have used up that range. We inspect the roof, lay out the pros and cons of repairing it versus replacing it, and leave the call to you.
Only 47 percent of Lawrenceville homes are lived in by their owners, which means more than half are rented. Rental property roofs are one of our six services: new roofs, repairs and upkeep for landlords with older roofs. Our reviews include landlords with several rental properties, and customers describe us as reliable, responsive and easy to work with. The gap between leases is a good window to get the roof checked, before a small leak becomes a stained ceiling and an unhappy tenant. Lawrenceville is about 17 miles from Winder, where we are based.
NOAA storm records for Lawrenceville cover both wind and hail. In October 2002, a downburst tied to the leftovers of Pacific Hurricane Kenna damaged buildings on the downtown square, peeled back part of at least one roof and brought down limbs on the courthouse grounds. When Tropical Storm Zeta came through in October 2020, the weather station at the Lawrenceville airport logged a 45 mph gust, and falling trees damaged at least 70 homes across Gwinnett. Hail has hit too: golf ball size near the airport in July 2018 and quarter size downtown in June 2022.
"David did a stellar job on my roof. It’s really beautiful. I own rental properties so he has actually done a few roofs for me and lots of repair and maintenance on my older roofs. He is easy to work with and so reliable."

Inside city limits, yes. The City of Lawrenceville lists roof modifications and replacement among the jobs that need a building permit from its Planning and Development department. If your Lawrenceville mailing address (30043 to 30046) is in unincorporated Gwinnett, the county issues the permit instead, and its weekly reports list roof replacement permits for Lawrenceville addresses.
Yes. Bungalows from 1900 to the 1940s are some of the oldest homes in Lawrenceville, and their roofs call for a careful tear-off. We replace decking where needed, put down underlayment and new architectural shingles, haul everything off, clean up the yard and walk the finished roof with you.
Both have happened. In April 1998 an F2 tornado ran from Norcross through Duluth and Suwanee to north of Lawrenceville, tearing roofs off houses. Straight-line wind and trees show up far more often in the records, like the May 2006 storm that dropped large trees onto a quadraplex on Patterson Court and caused considerable roof damage.
All the time. Landlords use us for new roofs, repairs, and keeping older roofs maintained across multiple properties.
We're based in Winder and roof across Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Jackson, Walton, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties. That covers Athens, Watkinsville, Jefferson, Monroe, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Stone Mountain, Tucker, Decatur, Avondale Estates, and the towns in between. Further out? Call and ask.
No. Estimates are always free with no pressure. We treat your home like our own and stand behind every roof we put on.
