Bethlehem took its name from Bethlehem Methodist Church, founded in 1796, and it goes by the Little Town Under the Star. Every Christmas season people bring cards to the post office for the Bethlehem cancellation, a tradition city officials date to 1967, and in 2018 the office cancelled more than 120,000 letters. Streets like Manger Avenue, Angel Street and Joseph Street run through town. It is a small place: 2.3 square miles just south of Winder, with 243 housing units in the latest census estimates.
Bethlehem has added very few houses in recent years. Half the homes date from the two decades between 1980 and 1999, and only about 5 percent went up after 2010. The population even slipped from 716 in 2000 to 601 in 2010 before recovering to 715 by 2020. That leaves half the houses in town at 27 to 46 years old, and a roof from that era that was never replaced has reached or outlived the 20 to 30 years most architectural shingles last. Homes reroofed in the early 2000s are getting close too.
Trees are the recurring theme in Bethlehem's storm record. Several came down in the 100 to 200 block of Tanners Bridge Road on June 24, 2020, and more fell along McElhannon Road south of town on August 7, 2023, the same road as the Manning Gin Farm on the National Register. The most unusual night was August 29, 2005, when outer bands of Hurricane Katrina spun up a tornado in nearby Fort Yargo State Park. In Bethlehem, chicken houses and outbuildings were damaged and a restaurant roof took minor damage.
About one in four occupied homes in Bethlehem is rented. A rental roof has its own math. A slow leak a tenant never mentions can turn into stained ceilings and rotted decking before anyone sees it. We do new roofs, repairs and ongoing upkeep on rental properties, and we lay out the pros and cons of patching versus replacing so you can decide where to spend first across more than one house.
"David did a stellar job on my roof. It’s really beautiful. I own rental properties so he has actually done a few roofs for me and lots of repair and maintenance on my older roofs. He is easy to work with and so reliable."

Because most roofs in town sit on older homes. Only about 5 percent of Bethlehem houses were built after 2010, and four in five went up before 2000. If yours still has its original roof, it is likely near or past the range shingles usually reach. An inspection shows if a repair will hold or a replacement makes more sense, and we explain it plainly.
Yes. Rental property roofs are on our service list, covering new roofs, repairs and the upkeep older rental roofs need. Reviewers call us reliable and responsive, and they mention our work for landlords with several rental properties. We walk through each house's pros and cons so you can decide which roof needs attention first.
Once the limb is cleared, we patch the hole, swap out any cracked decking and close the roof up so water stays out. Barrow County's hazard plan warns that the county's large number of trees becomes a hazard when snow and ice weigh down the limbs, so it pays to have the rest of the roof checked too.
All the time. Landlords use us for new roofs, repairs, and keeping older roofs maintained across multiple properties.
We're based in Winder and roof across Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Jackson, Walton, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties. That covers Athens, Watkinsville, Jefferson, Monroe, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Stone Mountain, Tucker, Decatur, Avondale Estates, and the towns in between. Further out? Call and ask.
No. Estimates are always free with no pressure. We treat your home like our own and stand behind every roof we put on.
