Georgia's fastest-growing city has mostly young roofs, a first wave from the 2000s coming due, and storms that hit every age.

Hoschton began in 1881, when the four Hosch brothers founded the town hoping to influence the route of the Gainesville, Jefferson and Southern Railroad. They donated the land for the depot, built in 1883, and the Hoschton Depot made the National Register in 2000. That small core is now ringed by growth. The 2020 census counted 2,666 residents. Census estimates for 2025 put the city near 8,600, up from 6,700 a year earlier, making Hoschton the fastest-growing city in Georgia.
The housing numbers tell the same story. Hoschton's median home was built in 2012, and 76 percent of its houses date from 2000 or later. Twin Lakes, a 1,422-acre master plan on Highway 53 less than a mile from downtown, was approved for 2,600 homes, and its gated Cresswind section for buyers 55 and over closed 144 homes in 2025 alone. Roofs that young rarely need replacing. What they need is a good look after storms and small fixes before small problems become leaks.
Then there is the first wave. About one in five Hoschton homes went up between 2000 and 2009, so their original shingles have now seen 17 to 26 summers. That puts them inside the two to three decades a typical architectural shingle roof lasts, ahead of the neighborhoods built after 2010. If you bought a resale home from that decade, it makes sense to find out how much life the roof has left before you budget for anything else.
Newer roofs still take hits. Lightning struck a house on White Trillium Drive on April 10, 2025, leaving a large hole in the roof. Less than two months later, on June 7, a fast line of storms dropped a tree onto a house on White Street. Back in February 2012, nickel to quarter-size hail fell from Hoschton to Jefferson just before midnight. And the January 2026 ice storm left a quarter inch to half an inch of ice across Jackson County, with significant tree damage in the hardest-hit parts of northeast Georgia.
"David did a stellar job on my roof. It’s really beautiful. I own rental properties so he has actually done a few roofs for me and lots of repair and maintenance on my older roofs. He is easy to work with and so reliable."

Because storms do not check the build date. In 2025 alone, lightning left a large hole in a roof on White Trillium Drive and a storm dropped a tree on a house on White Street. Newer roofs can also lose shingles in high wind. We handle storm damage, repairs and inspections on roofs of any age.
For homes inside city limits, the City of Hoschton takes building permit applications through its online CitizenServe portal, which also explains how to tell if a project needs one. Some homes with a Hoschton mailing address actually sit inside Braselton, so confirm which office covers your parcel before work starts.
Not for a while. Kolter closed on the Twin Lakes land in early 2019, so even the oldest homes there are young, and architectural shingles generally run 20 to 30 years. Until then, the realistic needs are storm repairs, gutter fixes and an inspection when a home changes hands.
All the time. Landlords use us for new roofs, repairs, and keeping older roofs maintained across multiple properties.
We're based in Winder and roof across Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Jackson, Walton, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties. That covers Athens, Watkinsville, Jefferson, Monroe, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Stone Mountain, Tucker, Decatur, Avondale Estates, and the towns in between. Further out? Call and ask.
No. Estimates are always free with no pressure. We treat your home like our own and stand behind every roof we put on.
